Ukraine occupies a total area of 603,700 square km. of territory in Europe; second only to Russia. Ukraine has an official border with Russia, Belarus, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Moldova, the self-proclaimed Transdnistria, Moldovan Republic and Romania. In the south Ukraine is washed by the Black and Azov Seas. Surface is mostly flat and hilly with some hills and lowlands. In the south-west the Ukrainian Carpathians are rising, in the extreme south - the Crimean mountains. The climate is temperate, mainly continental, on the southern coast of Crimea - subtropical. The main rivers: the Dnieper, Southern Bug, the Seversky Donets River, the Prut, the Dniester, the mouth of the Danube. The northern part of Ukraine is covered with mixed forests, the southern and middle - forest-steppe and steppe.

The size of GDP in 2009 amounted to $ 6400 per capita; by GDP Ukraine is the 40th economy in the world. The most developed industries are transport and energy. In economic terms, the most developed regions are: Donbass (Donetsk and Lugansk regions), Dnieper (Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye region), as well as the cities of Kyiv, Kharkov, Odessa and Lviv. Ukraine may well be attributed to emerging markets and developing economies.
The Ukrainian nation has evolved over millennia. Its roots are found in the historical trypilska culture that developed in the Middle Dnieper in the III millennium BC. Kievan Rus, a powerful medieval European monarchy, was founded on the expanses of Ukraine more than 1100 years ago, In XII-XIII century. This state broke up, and part of this land came into the possession of Muscovy state.

The subsequent sovereign state was Galicia-Volhynia (State Daniel Galitsky XIII-XIV centuries). After a long struggle for independence from Lithuania and Poland, as a result of the victory of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky in the national liberation war of 1648-1654, Ukraine re-emerged on the European political map as the Zaporizhzhya Sich.
After a brief period of sovereignty are centuries of colonial existence. Ukraine, has been divided between the Russian Empire and Poland, and after Poland’s decline - with Austria-Hungary (since 1772).

The revolutionary process in 1917 destroyed the Russian Empire and led to the proclamation of Ukrainian independence and the establishment of the Ukrainian National Republic.

The First World War hastened the disintegration of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, and on November 1, 1918,the establishment of Western Ukrainian People's Republic was proclaimed, which lasted eight months. During 1917-1921 Naddniprianska Ukraine was the scene of a desperate struggle. Governments of the Central Rada, Skoropadski, as well as the Directory were unable to defend the Ukrainian statehood. Absorbed within the USSR, Ukrainian SSR still formally retained some signs of a sovereign state: territory, public authority, budget, emblem, flag, anthem and constitution.

According to the decision of the Supreme Soviet Court of the USSR in 1944, the Union republics, including the Ukrainian SSR, were returned the right of independent foreign operations. On July 16, 1990, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Act on State Sovereignty, and on August 24, 1991 it declared the Act of Independence of Ukraine.

In the wake of the global economic boom Ukraine has developed into one of the fastest growing economies in Europe. During 2007-2008 Ukrainian GDP increased by more than one third. Bank lending market has grown rapidly,by more than 50% per year. There has been 100% growth in the stock market during that period. The growth of the material well-being was being felt everywhere, especially in the Ukrainian capital: shopping centers, world famous brands, and entire neighborhoods of affordable and luxury housing were being built. Ukraine was called one of the "tigers" of the European economy.

Today the economy is returning to pre-crisis levels of growth. Worries about the Euro notwithstanding, the fact that Ukraine's economy is booming, not only interests Ukrainian, but also foreign investors, which gives a strong inflow of finances in Ukraine. Countries continue to expect that Ukrainian presence on the map of world investment will be felt stronger than ever.

Tycoons are investing heavily in agriculture, market communications and banking. Foreign investment is helping to build a healthy competition in the Ukrainian economy and its integration with the West opens a huge market of Ukraine to Western business. Those who have already invested in the Ukrainian economy argue that all problems can be solved - to do business in Ukraine is possible.
Today Ukraine needs major manufacturers most. Ukraine attracts highly qualified companies due to relatively low-cost labor force, proximity to European markets, and strong transport infrastructure. While wages in countries that recently joined the European Union are growing rapidly, Ukrainian appeal is increasing. As a result of EU enlargement, Europe gradually reached the Ukrainian border, so that in terms of logistics and cost, to organize production in Ukraine today is advantageous as never before. It is obvious that economic growth in Ukraine will continue.

The world economy is emerging from crisis more quickly than expected. These conclusions were reached by the IMF, the improved forecasts for the world economy - in 2010 the growth of world GDP - 3,1%. In Ukraine, the IMF predicts economic recovery in the second half of 2010. The International Monetary Fund has officially confirmed forecast GDP growth in Ukraine in 2010 at 2.7%. As noted in the report, the global economy is growing thanks to a significant rise in Asian countries, as well as stabilization or moderate recovery in other regions. Not all the countries of Eastern Europe in 2010 will show growth of the economy - the economic downturn expected to continue in Bulgaria, Hungary, Montenegro and the Baltic countries. And in 2011 it is expected that economic growth in Ukraine will accelerate to 5,8%, which is higher than the average in Central Europe (+4%) and CIS (5.3%). Experts believe that such high rates of economic growth should allow the Ukrainian economy by the end of 2010 to enter the pre-crisis level.
Recent indicators of economic and social development of Ukraine showed that the Ukrainian economy is gradually beginning to emerge from the crisis. Recovery in industrial production and capacity of production in agriculture, improvement in the labor market, the spread of import substitution, reduction of negative balance of foreign trade through the implementation of anti-crisis program of the Government demonstrates to the international experts and foreign investors to Ukraine's ability to soon overcome the crisis.

Thus, given current trends, we can speak about the signs of stabilization and revitalization of the Ukrainian economy. As a condition of release of the leading sectors of the economy from the financial crisis is raising its competitiveness, which requires substantial investment to rebuild assets on the basis of resource saving, energy saving, innovation and environmentally sound production technologies.

The construction industry was one of the keystone industries in the Ukrainian economy in recent years. A third of the total volume of construction in Ukraine was in and around Kyiv, the capital. Until the first half of 2008 the volume invested in the construction sector grew steadily. In the second half of 2008 the situation began to change rapidly, and the construction industry immediately declared the need of government support during the financial and economic crisis. By the end of the year the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted the Law "On prevention of the global financial crisis on the development of construction industry and housing, which provides, inter alia, that the Government will allocate funds for the completion of construction sites with a high degree of readiness.

Minister of Regional Development and Construction of Ukraine Volodymyr Yatsuba believes that the crisis in the construction industry has ended. He said this in a recent interview. The Minister explained his point of view of two factors. "First, it inspires confidence that a growing number of business which this year want to engage in construction, are obtaining the appropriate licenses - said Yatsuba. - Secondly, came stabilization - and an increase in supply and demand on the housing market.

According Yatsuba, the Ministry is fully sorted out with an unfinished housing throughout Ukraine. "It's 650 houses that are at 50%, and 250 - at 70% completion. All unfinished projects have been allocated 12 billion hryvnia to complete"- told the Minister.

Commissioning of housing in Ukraine in 2010 may reach 8 million square meters. m, which is 25% higher than the final figure of 2009, subject to the allocation of state budget UAH 2 billion to implement the State Programme on completion of residential properties readily 70% and above.

UEFA European Football Championship 2012 will be the 14th football tournament for European countries, conducted every four years under the auspices of UEFA. The holding of the championship in Ukraine and Poland will greatly improve the infrastructure. In Ukraine, the Programme of preparation and holding the finals of Euro 2012 has been allocated significant financial resources. The total cost of building stadiums for Euro 2012 in Ukraine is 2 billion 784 million UAH. UEFA's Executive Committee approved the final list of host cities in the finals of the European Football Championship in 2012 with the Ukrainian side of Euro 2012 will take Kiev, Donetsk, Lviv and Kharkiv. The final match of the championship will be held in the Ukrainian capital at the stadium NSK "Olympic". The estimate of the project of reconstruction NSK "Olympic" is 2 billion 114 million UAH.

As one can see, there are many opportunities for business in Ukraine as it emerges from the crisis.
